Elegant Bohemian Red Garnet Dark Glass Goblet "Cut to Clear" – Molato – Biedermeier Style (Anni '20-'30) Splendid goblet belonging to the great Bohemian glassmaking tradition, produced by a high-quality manufactory of careful craftsmanship. Technique and Decor: The object was made with the complex technique of damascated glass and faceted grinding ("rosso granato scuro / cut to clear"). The thick dark surface has been skilfully removed through precise wheel grinding to bring out the sparkle of the underlying crystal. Unlike other models, this piece is free of acid engravings and entrusts all its beauty to a strict and elegant geometric arrangement: the decoration develops around large and deep lens (or olive) cuts of various sizes, arranged in overlapping bands and surrounded by small polished circular settings. The stem features a ring and a central knot, also faceted to lens, which connect to a massive round base, embellished along the edge by a corona of beading and by a deep bright starburst incised on the bottom. Era e Stile: The shape of the glass and its workmanship evidently draw inspiration from the 19th-century Biedermeier style, recalling the form of the famous friendship glasses ("Ranftbecher") popular between 1830 and 1840. However, the purely geometric aesthetics of the lens cuts, the absence of naturalistic motifs, and the imposing architecture of the stem allow placing this fine manufacture in a later era, datable to the first half of the 20th century (indicatively between the 1920s and 1930s).
