BIBLE. — [Biblia sacra polyglotta hebraice, chaldaice, graece & latine]. Sacrorum bibliorum. Tomus secundus. No place, no date [Antwerp, Plantin, 1569]. A substantial large folio volume, cold-stamped sowhide on boards, decorated with interlacing bands and multiple scrolls adorned with portraits; a large black medallion in the center of the front cover depicting the Virgin and Child seated on a crescent moon and crowned by two angels, two chiseled metal clasps, red edges (contemporary binding). A single volume from the magnificent Polyglot Bible (Biblia Regia) published under the auspices of King Philip II of Spain and printed by Plantin in Antwerp in 8 volumes from 1569 to 1573. An intaglio-engraved frontispiece depicting the crossing of the Jordan, signed with the monogram IHW (Wierix), and an architectural frontispiece engraved on wood. A remarkable print. A wormhole affecting the text in the last 6 quires of the volume; water damage at the beginning (significant) and at the end of the volume.
