The late Bernhard Huber made Malterdingen in Baden a byword for German Pinot Noir, planting Burgundian clones on the limestone that French monks once prized. The Bienenberg Grosses Gewächs is among Germany's finest reds; the estate is now in the hands of his son Julian. 2013 was a cool, structured vintage well suited to Spätburgunder. Michael Schmidt gave it 17.5 out of 20.
