Balance or scale - Marble, Wood, Brass

Two-pan scales are measuring instruments that date back to antiquity, but this specific model with a marble base and brass pans is typical of the period from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. These scales were mainly used in shops, pharmacies, and post offices to weigh goods, ingredients, or correspondence with precision. The combination of precious materials such as polished brass and white marble reflects the aesthetic sensibility of the era, when even everyday work instruments were crafted with artisanal care. Antique scales are highly appreciated by collectors of scientific instruments, industrial antiques, and period objects. These pieces are sought after not only for their historical and functional value but also as decorative elements that evoke the charm of old shops and laboratories. Their presence in a collection testifies to the evolution of measurement technology and represents a tangible piece of commercial and scientific history.
