BADINGUET THE GENDARME - Lot 64

BADINGUET THE GENDARME KLENCK, Paul. Badinguet the Gendarme. Paris, Imp. Talons, [1871]. A satirical black-and-white lithograph depicting Napoleon III, nicknamed “Badinguet,” dressed as a gendarme, with a saber at his side and a pipe in his mouth. On the right, a long text set to the tune of “La Gardeuse d’ours,” beginning with “Badinguet, Badinguet gendarme….” Signed “P. Klenck” on the plate. A beautiful and powerful anti-Bonapartist satire, typical of the caricatures produced following the fall of the Second Empire. A few foxing spots and slight signs of wear; in good overall condition.
