August Walther & Söhne - Vase - Crystal - H. 24cm / Fipop Vase

Extraordinary vase from the Moser glass manufactory in Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary) made of deep violet amethyst glass, executed with a faceted-walled body and a broad, around-the-item gold figure frieze. The vase belongs to the famous Fipop series. Moser himself documents this series for the years 1919–1922 and names Leo Moser as the designer. Characteristic is the combination of richly colored glass with the so-called Oroplastik: etched, gilded and partially patinated decorative bands form a striking contrast to the colored glass. Leo Moser had this special decorative technique patented around 1919. The intense dark violet corresponds to Mosers historical glass color “Amethyst”. Moser explicitly mentions Amethyst as one of the early strong tones used in these oroplastic-decorated glasses. Particularly striking is the broad golden frieze with antiquated, antiquity-reminiscent figures. Comparable Moser Fipop vases in Amethyst glass catalogued by Dorotheum also feature faceted walls and etched, gilded figure frieze. Among other things, Amazonian depictions are named there. Without a close-up of the entire frieze, I would consciously describe the motif on your piece only as an antiquity-reminiscent figure frieze. Manufacture: Moser, Karlsbad Series/Decor: Fipop Design: Leo Moser Period: around 1920 / Fipop series 1919–1922 Glass color: Amethyst Material: colored cut glass Decoration: Oroplastik, etched and gilded figure frieze Origin: Karlsbad / Karlovy Vary, then Czechoslovakia The combination of the strong Amethyst glass, the architectural faceted cut, and the surrounding golden figure frieze is typical for Mosers luxurious glass design of this era. The piece will be wrapped in padding foil and surrounded by Bio-Styrofoam inside a double-walled carton, shipped by DHL.
