ATTRIBUTED TO JEAN-JOSEPH TAILLASSON (FRENCH 1745-1809) THE JUDGEMENT OF PARIS Black chalk on paper 28 x 37cm (11 x 14½in.) Provenance: Harry Clifton gifted to Brian Desmond Hurst's sister, who gifted the work to Brian Desmond Hurst, who thence gifted the work to the previous owner (according to note verso) Stylistically and compositionally the present work has several similarities in the supple use of chalk, the delineation of the facial features and the presentation of the figures against the backdrop to that of Taillasson's Battle of Mars and Minerva, which recently appeared on the art market. However, there is no record of any other works of this subject in the artist's oeuvre. We are grateful to Benjamin Esteves for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.
