In the 1970s Jaap Venker from Sint Anthonis (NL) developed the Astrowatch in the form of an ornament with a diameter of no less than one and a half meters. It hangs prominently up near the top of the council chamber of the former town hall in Sint Anthonis. In 1979 it was reduced to pocket-watch size. Venker wrote a small book that initially appeared in English, published by Almere Projects. There came a so-called zero series of the Astrowatch of 150 pieces. In 1980 the book Astrowatch was published by Uitgeverij Ankh-Hermes in Deventer and a final series of about 1,200 pieces was produced by Revue-Thommen in Switzerland. The information comes, among other sources, from Jaap Venker’s website. The offered specimen comes from the publisher’s estate and has a special serial number, namely date and serial: 141180 – 1. All subsequent copies have only a serial number. The steel watch case has a diameter of about 50 mm. In accordance with the 2,500-year-old sidereal time (star time), the clock turns 36 degrees in 23 hours 56 minutes 4.0 seconds. The beautiful dial displays the zodiac and the visible part of the starry sky. The offered specimen comes with the accompanying book. The book’s spine is lightly discolored, the interior is equivalent to new and without annotations. The watch case shows some signs of wear; it has not been polished for sale to optimize appearance.
