Artemide Nesso, iconic orange-finish table lamp designed by Giancarlo Mattioli and by the Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova. Presented in the Sixties, Nesso is one of the most representative projects of Italian design from that period and a true symbol of experimentation with plastics. Its distinctive mushroom shape arises precisely from the possibilities offered by industrial molding, turning a material innovative for the era into an object with a strong sculptural identity. The large translucent plastic diffuser wraps around and hides the four light sources, producing a soft, diffused light. The rounded silhouette, free of superfluous elements, makes Nesso instantly recognizable even when it is off. The model won an award in 1965 in the competition organized by Artemide and the magazine Domus, and it is today part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, testimony to its importance in the history of Italian design.
