Art Asiatique / Buddhism] Seated Buddha statue in meditation on a stūpa / poly-lobed reliquary – Black lacquered wood and entirely gilded (Gilded & Lacquered Wood) – Thailand / Shan region (early 20th century) Regular and fascinating Buddhist votive sculpture, monolithic, depicting a Buddha seated in meditation (Dhyana Mudra / Bhumisparsha Mudra) atop an imposing stylized pedestal representing a stūpa or throne with multiple registers, carved with small votive motifs. Subject: Seated Buddha crowned by a conical/poly-lobed decorative relief-imbricated structure. Material: Carved wood, coated with traditional black lacquer (black lacquer) visible under the base and entirely gilded with gold leaf. Base: Flat circular plinth with a central consecration/reliquary cavity. Provenance / Style: Southeast Asian religious art (Thai / Burmese - Shan region). Dimensions : Height: 11.7 cm Width (base): 4 cm Weight: 53 g Surface & Gilding: Superb original gilding in very good condition, covering virtually the entire piece.
