Armorial mortar with fleur-de-lis, France, 17th century

Descriptio Carved stone. Measures 42 x 63 cm. An important armorial mortar, circular in shape with a slightly flared profile, decorated on its front with a heraldic shield carved in relief and surmounted by a stylized crown. The blazon features a central fleur-de-lis surrounded by mantling and scrolls with flowing lines. The sides display projecting volumes of an architectural nature, reminiscent of corbels or structural reinforcements. The vigorous carving and robust modeling indicate an originally outdoor or functional use. The old patina in shades of pink and beige, along with stabilized cracks, erosion, and surface wear, testifies to long exposure to time and lend material authenticity to the piece. The presence of the fleur-de-lis suggests a reference to the French nobility, although the wear prevents a precise heraldic identification. 42 x 63 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
