The female face, depicted in profile on a deep black background, is built through a remarkable layering of colors, textures and painterly gestures. The intense hues of electric blue, turquoise and violet mingle with touches of white and pink, giving the portrait a depth and intensity that are particular. The treatment of the gaze, the finesse of the lines and the plays of transparency contrast with the drips and spontaneous interventions of aerosol painting. This opposition between figurative precision and gestural abstraction is one of Antoine Stevens’s artistic signatures. With its exceptional format of just over two metres in height, Tamara possesses a spectacular visual presence. A powerful, expressive and resolutely contemporary work, capable of becoming the centerpiece of a collection or an interior space.
