Tiger's eye was already used as a gemstone in ancient times. Amulets were made in the form of small figurines of gods or cameos with carved depictions of scenes from the world of the gods. Roman legionaries wore it to protect themselves from injury and to be particularly courageous in battle. All kinds of magical powers were also attributed to the stone and it was supposed to protect against all kinds of adversity. As a planetary stone, it is associated with Mars. The elegant cameo in the center of this ring is made of this special, mysteriously two-tone shimmering stone. The expertly cut cameo depicts Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility. The goddess can be recognized by the wreath of ears of corn that adorns her lush curly hair. The elaborate, wide yellow gold setting frames the cameo with sculpted curves. This is typical of the jewellery of the 1930s, when yellow gold began to replace the previous fashion for cool, crystalline designs of early Art Deco. It is the design language of mature Art Déco, which was to remain modern until the 1950s. The classic men's ring still impresses today with its workmanship and motifs.
