Antique Locket Pendant with Hardstones in Gold, c. 1890

Antique lockets are one of these particularly sentimental pieces of jewellery. Worn close to the heart and yet protected from prying eyes, they can be used to safely store mementos in a precious case. As treasured treasures, they have been passed down from one generation to the next and still remind us today of people who have long since been carried away by the flow of time. This photo medallion from the last years of the 19th century shows a slice of polished stone in an engraved gold frame on both sides. We see a reddish-brown and a black hardstone. Both stones are particularly suitable for engraving and can be engraved with monograms or coats of arms. The inside of the pendant can hold two photographs. A beautiful and sentimental piece of jewellery that was originally intended for a watch chain, but can be worn around the neck just as well.
