Bohemian pyrope garnets experienced a real heyday in the 19th century. The form of garnet jewelry that we most often associate with this stone today - stars and flowers consisting of countless garnets set close together - developed at this time. Later, the aesthetics of densely set garnets were retained, but the shapes followed the latest fashion. This antique locket is richly set with Bohemian garnets. It is shaped like an oval flower and has a four-tiered structure. These are Bohemian garnets in the classic rose cut. It can be worn both as a brooch and a pendant thanks to a pin on the back and a detachable loop. The large movable loop with its opening is large enough for a thicker chain, a velvet ribbon or a cord. A photograph, a lock of hair or a folded letter can be safely stored in a large, glazed compartment on the back. For dating, see a page from the catalog for the year 1889 by L. J.
