This piece of jewellery, which was created in the last years of the Belle Époque, can be worn as a brooch and also as a pendant. Such a dual function was quite common at the time, promising that the investment in a particularly precious gem would pay off in terms of versatility. Typical of the period, the jewel takes up neoclassical stylistic elements such as the laurel garlands and the cross ribbon, which hark back to the Louis XVI era. Fabergé was not the only one to produce designs in this style for the tsar's family; precious white jewels in the so-called Garland Style, richly set with diamonds, were seen in all the ballrooms of the western metropolises. 1.08 ct diamonds in historic old European cuts and of fine quality were also used here. They are set in platinum, the most precious metal of the time, which at that time exceeded the price of gold many times over. Since the brooch came to us without its original centerpiece, we added the central sapphire. We chose the gemstone with care: it was cut around the same time as the jewel itself. In addition, it has the mild, medium blue hue that distinguishes the sapphires from Ceylon that were set in precious white jewels in the early 20th century. The stone weighs 4.46 ct and finds its appropriate setting in the delicate jewel from around 1910. The jewel comes with an external appraisal that independently confirms the quality of the materials used.
