Antique Diamond & Sapphire Target Ring, likely American, c. 1930

Is it a small target that invites Cupid, the god of love, to send his arrow in her direction? Rings with a circular ring face and an accentuated center are called "target rings" in English-speaking countries and are considered classic engagement rings in the USA. The centerpiece of this ring is a beautiful, sparkling old-cut diamond weighing approximately 0.55 carats and of excellent clarity. A concentric circle of carefully cut synthetic sapphires surrounds the central gemstone. These two round elements are surrounded by a multi-fit frame set with further old-cut diamonds and small rose-cut diamonds. Despite its geometric severity, the ring retains a certain loveliness. Sophisticated and modern in its detail, present in its size, we can date it to around 1930. The beautiful ring, probably made in the United States, came to us from Cologne.
