Antique Brooch with 1.25 ct “Fancy Light Pinkish Brown” Ole European

This brooch is designed as a horizontal bar. A wide band of polished platinum frames a sparkling row of diamonds and small laurel leaves. At the center of the design is a large old-cut diamond. The diamond weighs 1.25 ct and shimmers with a warm, slightly reddish-brown hue. It is a natural, untreated stone. An independent appraisal has classified its colour as reddish-brown (Fancy Light Pinkish Brown). The front is entirely set with platinum. The back, however, is made of gold. This was a common practice at the time, as platinum was so exceptionally rare and precious that it was almost never used for entire pieces of jewellery at the beginning of the 20th century. The brooch comes with an independent appraisal from Idar-Oberstein. We discovered it here in Berlin.
