Greco-Hellenistic terracotta head of a veiled woman Greece, 3rd–1st century BC. The head made of beige clay depicts a young woman in an almost frontal view. The softly modeled face has almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose and a small mouth that appears slightly open. The hair is parted over the forehead and rendered in wavy locks. Particularly characteristic is the veil laid over the back of the head, which frames the face from the side and falls in broad fields down to the neck. The back is comparatively roughly worked. The execution conforms to the Hellenistic tradition of small-format terracotta figures and figurines, in which female figures were often depicted with mantle or veil. The head is mounted on a restrained wooden pedestal (overall height: 93 mm) and can thus be displayed very well.
