Black-and-white drawings by Gérard Tantet and Froment. A comprehensive treatise on food and, the cooking and pastry in England and America, 394 pages. An antique volume of undeniable collectible interest. The volume features a fine half-leather binding produced (probably half-morocco or calfskin) with boards in cloth or red goffered paper. The spine is characterized by four raised ribs and compartments decorated with gold floral motifs and titles stamped in gold. The leather shows slight flaking of time but the engravings are still legible. The rear board shows evident signs of wear, moisture halos from prior exposure and fading of the red pigment, particularly along the outer margins and the upper right corner. The structure and the binding embossing of the boards remain nevertheless intact. The flyleaves and the initial endpapers are lined with a classic period marbled paper. Without evident tears in the inner hinge, which is stable. The inner pages show the typical uniform temporal browning of early 20th-century paper. The title page and the pages of the preface are well preserved, clean and free of heavy foxing or invasive markings, ensuring excellent readability of the text and illustrations. The historical full-page advertisement for Brown & Polson's Patent Corn Flour is present, a typical and sought-after detail in the original edition of the period. Overall, the condition can be classified as good, a complete cookbook that has surpassed 120 years of age, considering the external wear but the excellent condition of the interior.
