Pasture landscape of the Norman bocage, in the twilight light. Two cattle drink peacefully. In the distance, a few houses perched on the hill appear. Alexandre Thomas FRANCIA, born April 1, 1815 in London and died July 23, 1884 in Brussels, is a French painter. Son of the landscape painter and watercolorist François Louis Thomas Francia (1772-1839), he is like his father a recognized painter and watercolorist, specialized in landscapes and seascapes. He led an international career, exhibiting from 1835 at the Paris Salon, then in London, Vienna, Antwerp and Brussels. He later settled in Belgium where he was made a knight of the Order of Leopold for his artistic merits. His works are held in several international museums.
