Interior fresh despite scattered foxing which does not affect the text or the drawings at all. This collection of facetious medieval tales is a classic of late 19th-century bibliophily, highly sought after for the liveliness and humor of Robida’s drawings, which perfectly match the rabelaisian spirit of the text. As for J. Faure, he was a Parisian binder-gilder active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His signature "stamped at the tail" guarantees careful, bespoke workmanship of the period, often requested by a particular collector, far superior to the publisher’s industrial calfskin bindings.
