Abraham Lincoln Signed Army Appointment

Large-format Civil War military commission signed by President Abraham Lincoln and countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. The document appoints Lieutenant Drake to the rank of First Lieutenant in the Fifth Regiment of Infantry, with rank dating from September 24, 1862. Executed in Washington during the Civil War and retaining its blue War Department seal. Presented in a large custom framed display together with a period carte-de-visite photograph identified as "Lieut Drake," apparently the officer receiving the commission, along with a portrait of Lincoln and descriptive plaque. The inclusion of Drake's period military photograph provides an uncommon personal connection to the soldier whose appointment was authorized by Lincoln during the Civil War. Estimate $8,000 - $12,000
