A Papua New Guinea volcanic stone mounted axe, Western Highlands, the green stone axehead, mounted in wood and vegetable fibre, 52cm high, 62cm wide Provenance: Provenance: The Ken Paul Collection. Born in 1913, Ken Paul began assembling his collection around 1946, in the immediate post-war period, and continued to expand it throughout the 1950s. During this time, he also operated a successful antiques shop and prop-hire business based in Hampstead, supplying the film and television industries. The business operated during the golden age of British cinema in the 1950s and 1960s, supplying props for a number of significant productions of the period, including the first James Bond film, Dr. No (1962). The items offered form part of The Ken Paul Collection and are understood to have been acquired from the early days of his collection, circa 1950s.’
