A EXTREMELY FINE FAMILLE ROSE EGGSHELL VASE EARLY REPUBLIC PERIOD, CIRCA 1915 粉彩山水纹瓶 民国 约1915 painted in a continuous landscape scene with a scholar and is attendant standing beside a water buffalo at the entrance to a village, where he is being greeted by a lady and child, all elaborately painted together with a farmer crossing a bridge, fisherman in a boat and figures in a viewing pavilion, all in a continuous mountain river landscape scene beneath delicately enamelled blue borders of ruyi heads and pendants beneath the flared rim, and above a blue enamel keyfret band at the foot. The base with a four-character blue enamel mark of Qianlong within a double square. 22.6 cm high PROVENANCE: Property of a gentleman. From the collection of the late Colonel Mary M Munro. Colonel Mary Munro had the distinction of being the first woman Colonel in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Born in Fife, Scotland, she graduated from St Andrews University in 1936 before joining the Army. During her military career, Colonel Munro served in Britain, Germany, Egypt, Cyprus, Malta and India. It was during her last station in Hong Kong in the early 1960's that she was promoted to Colonel.
