A Chinese Famille Rose lobed 'Landscape' bowl

A Chinese Famille Rose lobed 'Landscape' bowl Jiaqing six-character mark in iron red and of the period (1796-1820) the exterior decorated with a scene of the 'Mooring at Xunyang in Autumn' identified by an inscription, and with a lengthy inscription in black prefaced and followed by iron-red seals, with gilt petal-lobed rim 17.4cm diameter Provenance: Collection of Wilfred Stuart Delano Barnes (1934-2024) and by family descent, collection no. 36 Stuart worked for Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong from 1962, serving for many years as Group Financial Controller and ultimately as Financial Director. The present bowl is inscribed with a poem by the Ming dynasty poet Han Zhongxiu, which perfectly complements the painting of 'Autumn Mooring at Xunyang' (Xunyang qiubo), one of the celebrated 'Ten Views of Jiangxi'. Compare with a similar bowl sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 20 May 2026, Lot 3378, with a four-character Jiaqing seal mark. A closely related famille-rose small cup depicting 'Returning Sails at Nanpu' from the same 'Ten Views of Jiangxi' series, formerly in the collection of John Reeves (1774-1856), was included in the exhibition catalogue Recent Acquisitions, Marchant, London, 2010, cat. no. 50. Compare also a related famille-rose 'landscape' cup, seal mark and period of Jiaqing, bearing a similar iron-red enamel seal mark, sold at Christie's New York, 19th March 2021, lot 730.
