A 19th century Persian prayer mat and an Iranian Qajat dynasty Talismanic intricate hand knitted pouch. The prayer mat made in India for the Persian market, with a blocked printed border and a Mirab prayer arch, the tear drops, embroidered and the fine cream centre quilted, the underside lined in red wool. The Talismanic pouch designed to carry sacred objects, such as scrolls, prayer beads, amulets and astronomical charts, is very finely knitted with coloured and metallic silks. The top having two knitted rows of Quranic verse, the interior lined with fine linen, the mat 54cm high x 37.5cm wide. Condition; The prayer mat has a small mark on the side of the cream quilted centre, which may be professionally removed, the edges of the mat are frayed in places, which can be repaired. The knitted pouch is in good condition and appears hardly used.
