Collection of Royal Doulton glazed earthenware character jugs featuring notable historical figures with hand-painted polychrome decoration. Includes Christopher Columbus D6911, designed by Stanley J. Taylor, issued in 1992 for the Royal Doulton International Collectors Club in a limited edition of 122 of 7,500, commemorating the 500th anniversary of Columbus's 1492 voyage to the Americas; this jug was also exhibited at Expo '92 in Seville, Spain. Also includes Ben Franklin D6695, designed by Eric Griffiths and issued from 1982-1989, depicting the renowned American statesman, scientist, and inventor, recognized for his discovery that lightning is electricity and the invention of the lightning rod.
