2023 Domaine Coste-Ubesse « Moja Negra » - Languedoc - 6 Bottles (0.75L)

6 bottles from the Coste-Ubesse estate, MOJA NEGRA cuvée 2023 in Pic Saint Loup. The wine from Coste-Ubesse comes from two adjoining syrah parcels totaling barely 3 hectares and cultivated biodynamically. This plot located in the commune of Saint-Mathieu-de-Tréviers in Hérault sits on a clay-limestone stony hillside on marls that crack, oriented to the north (Ubesse = Ubac, meaning north in Occitan). “My grandfather Eugène, roaming his vines, taught me to observe the cicadas, as if married to the bark of a buckthorn, an arbutus, or a large Aleppo pine. The cades, the rockroses, the thyme, the garrigue shrubs are here the companions of the vines. They send their roots beyond the limestone pebbles into the soft clay of Coste-Ubesse, the north-facing slope. This orientation tempers the sun’s deadly heat in summer; the site shelters plants from sudden winter onslaughts. Everything here favors the tranquil growth until the grapes reach full maturity that make my wines.” “From my research, the Reboul family were winemakers from father to son without interruption since 1700 (I could not go further back…). A sign of fate, they were then owners in Saint-Pargoire, the commune on which we bought a few hectares of vines with Jean Luc to complete the Coste-Ubesse estate at Pic Saint-Loup…” “A cuvée 100% Syrah Grenache with enchanting fragrances of licorice and vanilla, long on the palate, aged two years in barrels before bottling.” Magnificent.
