Fuligni, a historic estate perched on the cooler eastern hills of Montalcino, is renowned for producing wines of exceptional finesse and purity. This Brunello, in particular, captivates with its bouquet. The nose offers a complex and intense array of wild cherry, raspberry, crushed violet, and soft spices, with underlying notes of fresh mint, white pepper, and a mineral stoniness that is characteristic. It is a benchmark Brunello. It possesses all the typical traits of Sangiovese from Montalcino. On the palate, this wine is broad and silky, with a core of pure, vibrant fruit supported by a structure of ultrafine, chalky tannins and a bright acidity. A true delight, typically Burgundian. Traditionally aged in large Slavonian oak casks, it is a wine for purists and patient collectors. In my opinion, it is the flagship of this vintage so far. Ripe and lifted, this wine reveals aromas of red plum, strawberry, black cherry, and mandarin zest. Elegant and emblematic, it offers a fine sensory evolution, with citrus notes and hints of ginger.
