Château d’Yquem Y (Ygrec) Exclusive white wine with refined balance between freshness and complexity Château d’Yquem Y 2015 is a unique white wine with a rich history. Originally, Y was made at the end of the harvest, with the last grapes – partly affected by Botrytis cinerea – contributing to an unusual and complex wine. Since 1996 Y has been modernized, while preserving its characteristic freshness and liveliness. From 2004 Y is produced every year by selectively harvesting plots of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The grapes are picked at the perfect moment: when Sauvignon Blanc is optimally ripe and Sémillon has developed a pink skin, which enhances its aromatic potential. During fermentation the wine is closely monitored, with gentle pressing and temperature control in a special, modern cupping room. The maturation takes place on lees in oak barrels, of which only one third are new, with regular bâtonnage for ten months. The result is an elegant blend with a subtle mix of predominantly Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Tasting note: Y 2015 is juicy and lively, with a refined balance between the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc and the depth of Sémillon. On the nose, aromas of pear, white peach, and fresh almond dominate. The complex finish offers hints of spicy mandarin, alternated with appealing bitter notes that linger long on the tongue.
