Melini, La Selvanella - Chianti Classico Riserva - 5 bottles 0.75 L The Chianti Classico Riserva "La Selvanella" from Melini – produced by this important Tuscan winery – is a Sangiovese of historical significance, having been the first Chianti Classico labeled as an expression of a single vineyard. First produced in 1969, the cru "La Selvanella" testifies to the foresight that has always characterized Melini's production philosophy. Spanning some 50 hectares in the Radda in Chianti area, the vineyard originates from a massal selection of Sangiovese vines originally planted in the 1960s. The Chianti Classico Riserva "La Selvanella" by Melini is produced from pure Sangiovese grapes grown in a single vineyard at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level. The vines draw their roots from soils composed of alberese (marly limestone), galestro (slate clay) and calcareous marls, enjoying excellent southwest exposure. After harvest, the grapes are transferred to the winery and placed in stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation takes place in contact with the skins for about three weeks. After fermentation, the wine is transferred into French oak barrels for a 30-month aging, followed by bottling and a further period of bottle aging of at least one year. In the glass, the Chianti Classico Riserva "La Selvanella" by Melini presents a ruby red color with slight garnet reflections. The aromatic profile is a complex mosaic offering intriguing notes of raspberry and ripe plum, undergrowth, balsamic herbs, toasted almond, leather and sweet spices such as cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate it proves complex and elegant: the enveloping warmth is balanced by excellent freshness and sapidity, leading to a tasty and persistent finish, characterized by fruity and spicy notes that recall the aromas perceived on the nose.
