These are two rarities from Dr. Bürklin-Wolf in Wachenheim. 1. Bottle: Riesling Spätlese 1990 The wine site “Wachenheimer Luginsland” is a single-vineyard in Wachenheim on the German Wine Road, within the Pfalz. The name derives from the excellent view from this site, although most of the vineyard area is relatively flat. The soil of the site is characteristically clayey sand, gravely with underlying ton sand terrace gravels. The vineyards lie between Wachenheim and Forst on sandy soils with sandstone gravels. The bottle is in pristine condition, the label excellent, and the seal over the cork is intact. Bottler: estate bottled, Spätlese semidry, Qualitatswein mit Prädikat Vintage '90: a good vintage with pronounced structure, Taste: comparatively low acidity, aromas of yellow-fruited exotic fruits. Style: Very pleasant and approachable wine, often categorized as Qualitätswein or Erste Lage, The fill level is "h.f." (High Fill) = no visible liquid loss 2. Bottle: Riesling Spätlese 1994 The wine site “Wachenheimer Gerümpel” is a renowned VDP Erste Lage in the Pfalz, entirely on the municipality of Wachenheim on the German Wine Road. The roughly 13-hectare single site borders directly on the famous Forster parish and is known for its high-quality Riesling wines. The site lies in the Mittelhaardt-Deutsche Weinstraße region within the Großlage Mariengarten. It enjoys a favorable climate with an east-west orientation and is protected by the Pfälzer Wald from excessive rainfall. Föhn-like winds promote fast drying, which helps prevent fungal issues and guarantees healthy grape material even at late harvests. The name probably derives from the former owner Grympel family from the 15th century, not from the colloquial sense of “garbage.” The soils consist of clayey sand, limestone gravel, and Buntsandstein with volcanic basalt influences from the neighboring Forster Pechstein. This mineral-rich soil leads to wines with saline minerality, elegance, and a rich aromatic spectrum of ripe yellow fruits. The bottle is in good condition, the label excellent, but the seal over the cork is torn. There is no information about the cork’s integrity, but no significant liquid loss appears to have occurred.
