1979 Mercedes 280 SL R107 hard-top

1979 Mercedes 280 SL R107 hard-top - Less than 15,300km - Only three owners - Exceptional original condition - Original paint, upholstery, hard-top and engine - Sold new in Germany - No reserve Its low mileage, of less than 15,300km today, is unquestionably the outstanding quality of this car, and as a result it is in extremely well-preserved original condition. This R107-series 280 SL was sold new in Germany to a Walter Wetterer and registered as OG-CW-55, with ‘OG’ denoting the city of Offenburg. It would be another 32 years before he would sell it, in January 2011, with 6,622km recorded, to a Dutch lady, Ms. Whitlau, who registered it as 75-THL-7. She continued to take great care of the car until it was purchased on 12 April 2018 by Thierry Dehaeck through the specialist Fine Classics. At this point, the car had covered only 14,350km, a total that has scarcely increased today, having been driven only as much as needed to keep it in good condition. Its red paint is entirely original, just like its beige upholstery, its red hard-top, and its twin-cam engine in the absolutely immaculate engine compartment. The German specialists FSP gave it an ‘AAA’ rating, corresponding to 100% original, and the expert Gert Beets confirmed its exceptional condition in his report, a situation that is extremely sought after by collectors. The car comes with numerous documents including its factory build card, the owner’s manual in its plastic wallet, the original service book with two stamps, the warranty card for the Becker radio, a sales brochure and its FIVA ID card. With this car, its new owner will enjoy the same sensations behind the wheel as the buyer of a 280 SL whose car had just left his Mercedes dealer’s showroom in 1979. It is a feeling few enthusiasts can claim to have experienced.
