全部拍賣 / Vehicles / 1963 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet (W111) – Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers

1963 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Cabriolet (W111) Four-seater convertible, hand-built by Mercedes-Benz. Carefully maintained by the same owner for more than ten years. One of just 2,729 examples produced. Mercedes-Benz has a long tradition of convertibles with room for more than two people. As early as the 1930s, open Mercedes models were available with space for the whole family, a tradition that continues today with the Mercedes CLE Cabriolet. One of the most elegant examples is the W111 Cabriolet, designed by French automotive designer Paul Bracq, who was responsible for several of Mercedes-Benz’s most distinctive models of the 1960s. At almost five metres in length, it offers generous space for four, while its imposing proportions and elegant lines create a beautifully balanced whole. This particular example was delivered new to a customer in Arizona in 1963 and arrived in Denmark in 2008. Today, it is presented in European specification, featuring the characteristic upright headlights that have become one of the most recognisable elements of Mercedes-Benz design from the period. The odometer reads 84,200 km, a figure that appears consistent with the car’s overall condition and presentation. The paintwork is finished in Papyrus White, while the period-correct MB-Tex interior and soft top are finished in blue. The colour combination is complemented by an ivory-coloured steering wheel and gear knob, along with a well-preserved walnut dashboard. The original Becker Mexico radio and clock remain in place. Under the bonnet sits a 2.2-litre straight-six, delivering smooth running and the well-balanced sound of a six-cylinder engine. The manual gearbox is a sought-after option and, together with the power steering, makes the car particularly easy and enjoyable to drive. Behind the wheel, it is easy to see why the W111 Cabriolet is so highly regarded among classic Mercedes-Benz models, combining elegant open-top motoring with seating for four. The car is registered in Denmark and comes with historically correct black number plates as well as its original data card. With just 2,729 examples produced, the W111 Cabriolet is a rare car, and this example presents as a well-maintained representative of one of Mercedes-Benz’s most stately convertibles.
