1839 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. No Drapery. WB-4. Rarity-4. VF-35 (PCGS).

1839 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. No Drapery. WB-4. Rarity-4. VF-35 (PCGS). Golden-rose iridescence intermingles with attractive slate-gray patina on this pleasing circulated example of the popular No Drapery type. Date position is the primary means of confirming the variety, though a pair of die lines behind Liberty's heel provide additional confirmation and can be verified with strong magnification and good light. Of the four die marriages of the No Drapery type, WB-2 is the only one to employ this obverse die; the other three all share a single obverse. Interestingly, each of the seven 1839 Liberty Seated half dollar die marriages employs a reverse die exclusive to that variety. Provenance: From the Jim Koenings Collection. PCGS# 6230. NGC ID: 24GK.
