(15) Apollo 11 NASA Transparencies & Press Archive

Exceptional archive of 15 original period NASA photographic transparencies documenting the historic Apollo 11 mission, with 14 retaining their accompanying NASA press information sheets, together with the original National Aeronautics and Space Administration "PHOTOGRAPH - DO NOT BEND" envelope. The images chronicle numerous aspects of the mission, including Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin working on the lunar surface, deployment of scientific experiments, the American flag, astronaut footprints, lunar terrain, the Lunar Module ascent stage during rendezvous with Earth visible above the lunar horizon, and post-splashdown recovery operations. Many retain NASA image numbers along the borders, with their Manned Spacecraft Center press sheets identifying and describing the scenes. Numbers represented include 69-HC-683, 685, 686, 688, 691, 692, 694, 695, 697, 698, 860 and 861, among others. Several of the accompanying releases are dated July 31, 1969, just one week after the Apollo 11 crew returned to Earth. An impressive period NASA photographic archive preserving imagery from mankind's first lunar landing in the format distributed for contemporary press and publication use. Includes the original NASA photographic envelope. Condition varies with age, including folds to the press sheets and considerable wear to the envelope. Estimate $1,000 - $2,000
