An 18th century diamond

An 18th century diamond, topaz and gem set chandelier pendant / brooch with gold chains, the jewel designed as a blue foil backed rectangular cushion cut rock crystal with a rose cut diamond at each of the cardinal points, the three lower ones each with a pendant drop: the central one with a small chrysoberyl then a pink foil backed pear cut rock crystal, terminating in a trio of diamond highlights, the two side drops each with a small round cut emerald above a pear cut apricot topaz and a similar smaller trio of rose cut diamond points; the bale set with an oval rose cut diamond, also brooch fitting; all stones in closed back settings, length with bale 4.9cm; presently hung from two modern chains of similar length, one of oval filed trace links, London hallmarks for 9ct gold, 1984, the other a fancy figaro type chain stamped '9ct', lengths 51 and 49cm Estimate £800-1,200 + fees The pendant measures 2.2cm wide and 4.9 cm long including the integral diamond set bale. The condition is generally good for age - all the stones appear to be secure, with very little wear and facet edges crisp, and the articulations of the drops are all fluid. There is loupe visible sign of repair by the claws on the short ends of the central stone, and evidence that the bale was once hinged. The colour of the central stone - the blue foiled back rock crystal - is uneven, the blue being stronger round the sides and the centre more of a steely grey. There are flecks of dirt behind the stones in their closed back settings, but all have good reflective properties so the overall impression is lively. The chains are both in good order, supple and free-flowing. Weights: pendant 5.74g, fancy chain 5.90g, belcher chain 5.10g. No eye-visible inclusions in the diamonds, but as observed above, dirt behind them.閱讀更多
