Silver Mounted Philadelphia Eagle Pommel Cavalry Saber Marked Weaver.

This is a Type I eagle pommel sword signed with mark of Emmor T. Weaver, a native of Philadelphia and appeared in city directories as a silversmith, watch case maker, gilder, jeweler and swordsman. This example features a curved steel blade with partial single fuller on each side and 14-1/2" panels of blued engraved and gilt washed designs. The right side has a gilt edge and spine as well as a large Federal American eagle with an "E PLURIBUS UNUM" banner in its beak. The top of the blade features a Liberty pole with foliate designs and a "Warranted" banner. The other side with foliate scrolls and arms motifs. The hilt is of solid silver and stamped "E.T. WEAVER" on the front of the guard just below the blade. Reverse P knuckle bow of spoon form with slot for sword knot. The two piece hollow eagle pommel shows great detail and is one of Weaver's earlier hiltings. One piece ivory grip with fluted relief panel on right side. Complete with its original black leather scabbard with solid silver mounts decorated with rocker panel engraved borders. All the customary engravings on the scabbard mounts have been reinterpreted as three-dimensional raised reliefs, which is a unique feature. For a similar example, see No. 43 on page 174 of the "The American-Eagle-Pommel Sword" by E. Andrew Mowbray. CONDITION: Very good as found. Blade retains much of original polish with some staining and grey spotting. Decorated portion retains 70-80% bright blue finish with some turned to plum or thinning. Retains approximately 90% or more of original gilt finishes. Hilt and scabbard mounts are excellent and retain an unpolished patina. Maker's mark is crisp. Grip retains a honey patina and is excellent. Leather portion of scabbard retains a crazed surface overall with some losses to stitching and original surface. This is a very nice, early Philadelphia silver hilted, eagle pommel saber.Name Value Blade Length 28" Overall Length 33 - 1/2" Paperwork No, Name, Value, Blade Length, 28", Overall Length, 33 - 1/2", Paperwork, No閱讀更多
