An Absolutely Delightful Fully Restored Example with Less Then 12,000 Miles From New\n\nCoachwork by Ghia\n\n16.5hp, 479cc air cooled two-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission, four-wheel leaf springs and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: Unbelievably Short\n\nFiat broke new ground in the 1950s, toying with new ideas for land travel as well as air travel. In 1951, Fiat came out with the G-80, which was Italy’s first ever jet aircraft and in 1953, Fiat’s first ever diesel engine. The company was on a roll and in the period of 10 years its workforce expanded from 70,000 to 80,000 and production rose from 70,000 cars to well over 330,000 cars.\n\nFew cars that Fiat produced had the “cuteness” appeal as that of the Jolly. Introduced in 1957, the Fiat Jolly, with coachwork by Ghia, had no real practical use, except for that of pure enjoyment. Many wealthy playboys, such as Fiat chief, Gianni Agnelli, would load these cars on their yachts and use them as beach cars when they went on vacation.\n\nWeighing in at a mere 1,050 lbs, the Jolly could actually accomplish speeds of 59 miles per hour, presumably with the top down, while achieving gas mileage of 52 miles per gallon, thus becoming the ideal shore dinghy.\n\nThe Fiat Jolly 500 offered here, is a show quality example having recently benefited from a thorough and comprehensive restoration by an award winning California restoration firm. The Jolly was repainted in red and the original Jolly logos were recreated and correctly installed on each side of the car. No Jolly would be complete without the removable striped fringe Surrey top and authentic wicker seats, which are actually amazingly comfortable and roomy accommodating even the tallest of drivers and passengers.\n\nWith 11,500 registered miles, the Fiat only needed minimal attention to be returned to top mechanical condition. From years of exposure to the salty ocean breeze, many of these steel-bodied cars were plagued by corrosion and as a result the survivor rate of the Jolly is very low. That fact makes this example all the more desirable, as it is a rare opportunity to come across an authentic Fiat Jolly for sale, much less finding one in premier mechanical and aesthetic condition ready to enjoy.\n\nChassis no. 076159
